The London Taxi Company sells another 500 TX4s into Azerbaijan!
30th June 2014
The London Taxi Company and the Ministry of Transport continue their collaboration to improve the Azerbaijan public transport system, through the introduction of purpose-built, fully accessible London Taxis.
Following negotiations between the Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan and LTC Vice-President of UK Operations, Peter Johansen, a contract was signed on 26 May with the State Service of Road Transport to supply a further 500 TX4s into the capital city of Baku.
These vehicles will join the 1,000 damson-coloured TX4s which were supplied in 2011 to the forward-thinking State to support their ambitious vision for commerce and tourism, and were in-situ in time for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012.
The 500 London Taxis will play a central role in the inaugural European Games taking place in the capital Baku during the summer of 2015; with 300 of the instantly-recognisable, iconic Black Cabs reserved for use for VIP transport during the Games.
Commenting on the latest International success, Peter Johansen said: “This repeat order signals a strengthening of the partnership between The London Taxi Company and Azerbaijan. When officials looked to improve Baku’s taxi system, President Aliyev was integral in the decision to use the world’s most iconic and recognised Black Cab. It’s only fitting that these vehicles will form the basis of the VIP fleet during the prestigious European Games next year.
“The London Taxi represents premium quality, customer safety, comfort and recognisability, coupled with a unified fare system and a professional driver. We’re proud to be able to support the ambitions of Azerbaijan to raise the standards of the country’s taxi system; replicating the world class service delivered by drivers every day in our vehicle on the streets of London.”
The 500 TX4s will be delivered in three batches during the second half of this year. The London Taxi TX4 has so far been exported into more than 40 markets worldwide.
